What is This About?

From july 25th to august 2nd I attended to the GNOME Users And Developers European Conference (GUADEC). This post contains some of the many things that happened there. It also covers the progress of my GSoC project.

The Conference

Listening to the talks was great. I especially enjoyed listening to Jim Hall’s keynote about usability testing and hope that we can do more work similar to this and apply it. A big thank you to the GNOME Foundation for sponsoring me partially, all the organizers, the other volunteers and finally all attendees. It was really great to meet all of you!

Non-Passive Actions

In addition I organized the BoF about navigation without pointer devices. We mainly talked about making shortcuts more consistent in GNOME. There are some ongoing discussions about this, I’ll drop another post when there is progress.

Boxes

We held a Boxes BoF and merged all my Boxes patches directly related to my project. Therefore in 3.14 you will definitely get ISO downloading in Boxes’ wizard as well as support for initrd injection based installation scripts. I will hopefully add two of those in the next weeks (debian, openSUSE) to libosinfo. Many thanks on that to Richard Brown from openSUSE who was very kind in helping me getting the openSUSE installation script up and running.

All In All…

I had a great time at GUADEC (although it literally made me sick.) I got many things done, have many new ideas and new tasks to think about. For now I’ll focus on getting more things done for my project as soon as I feel better.
